Playlist

When starting up EQdrill, you will be presented with a splash screen in the center and already be seeing the remaining UI behind it. You might also notice that pulsating "Browse" button in the bottom right, which is part of the playlist area.

playlist area

In general, the first step after starting up EQdrill is always to load up an audio file from the playlist (or to add one first if not present yet). Click the "Browse" button, then either via the "Browse file ..." button, or based on some entry from the "recent files" list (if present)

In order to finish up, either:

  1. double click on the playlist entry,
  2. or use up/down arrow keys to focus it and press Enter,
  3. or hit the 'Shift + i' shortcut, which will load up the very first playlist entry.

As a result the audio file's waveform will be showing in the player area and the splash screen will have disappeared.

A note on audio file loading speed

The first time loading a respective audio file will take noticeably longer than all subsequent loads. The reason for this is that the first time around the audio file needs to be decoded, while subsequent loads can skip it by reusing the already created peak file. This is an approach used by various DAWs or other kinds of audio editing software, so you might already be familiar with this behaviour. The location of that peaks files are being saved to can be configured (refer to Settings).

Further features

Apart from loading audio files into the playlist, one can perform various actions one would expect from an audio playlist:

  • selection of multiple entries via 'ctrl' and/or 'shift' modifiers + LMB
  • re-ordering entries via mouse drag and drop or via keyboard shortcuts (try arrow up/down keys in conjunction with with 'ctrl' and/or 'shift' key).
  • removing selected entries via "delete" button ('X' button at bottom; hold 'shift' to clear whole playlist) or via 'delete' key
  • a "repeat" feature, which can be toggled between 'no repeat', 'single repeat' and 'playlist repeat'
    • an exception are audio files shorter than one second, which will always be treated as 'single repeat' regardless of this button's setting
  • a button to expand the playlist UI

As an alternative to loading audio files, one can also make use of the external audio feature, which will be discussed in a later chapter.

Useful keyboard shortcuts:

  • 'g': next track
  • 'shift + g': previous track
